Winter Passing (2006)
Another in an increasingly long line of movies, that seem to based on real life events of the writer-director. These movies arent bad, quite enjoyable actually. This once, darker than the trailer made it seems stars Zooey Deschanel as a self-abusing, despressed actress living in New York, where a publisher promises her a 100 grand if she can locate love letters her famous writer-parents wrote before they were married. Unfortunately this mean she has to go back to her estranged father and the home she left behind. Once she gets there she discovers more houseguests than she expected.
The Movie plays out nicely, dosent try to preach or show you a resolution thats not there. Ed Harris and Will Farrel both give entertaining performances, while the Zooey herself just goes through the movie seemingly bored. Worth a watch, if your into homecomings, talky dramas with mild humor and undertones of sex, drugs and death. I know I am. (3.0/5.0)

The Omen (2006)
This can, easily be one of the worst remakes to grace American cinema. The plot is exactly the same (leaving out some of the gorier death scenes) but the ones that are there are filmed exactly the way the original were. There is no deviation in the storyline. The kid playing Damien, the one made out to be the next Haley Joel Osment, has exactly four lines the movie which he delivers in a their-forcing-me-to-do-this way. Nobody except Mia Farrow manages a convincing performance, even Julia Stiles bores you. Pass on this one, even horror-fans (1.0/5.0)

The Woods (2006)
This movie’s been on their shelves for years, waiting for a release. It finally got that and for that I would be greatful. True, the film didnt shower the screen with monsters but the subtle way it uncovered the twisted academy and its many secrets should be praised. A great watch, should not be missed. (4.0/5.0)

10th and Wolf (2006)
In the wake of Running Scared, comes yet another turf-war flick. While RUnning Scared focused on an event this movie goes the traditional way showing their life before, during and after the events. Three friends, family, end up in bad places and Tommy (James Mardsen) runs away and joins the marines. When he comes back home, hes undercover working for the Feds, so that his cousin and brother, now neck deep in the business might be able to walk free. Piper Perabo, always a nice to look at fits perfectly into yet another crime-flick, as a newly widowed now-single mother who manages to get caught up in the war. The plot was well-written, balancing tragedy, betrayal, brotherhood, dirty cops, gunplay and even a smudge of romance.
You’ll love it if u liked Running Scared. (3.5/5.0)
