Welcome To Hell.A (yes, it’s the most obvious heading). Angel’s Season Six Begins

Overseen by Whedon, written by Brian Lynch (Spike: Asylum, Spike: Shadow Puppets) and drawn very well by Urru, Angel’s season six is here. It kind of creeped up on me, I had no idea this was coming out this month, this week. Well…it’s here now.

When Buffy left us it left us at a much more positive juncture than Angel did. Buffy has always been the brighter show, and it’s no different for the comic series. Angel’s first issue simultaneously makes you scream for joy and weep for the poor, helpless characters.

When it left us: Wesley was dead (quite possible the best Buffy-verse death ever. I’m not ashamed to admit I cried), so was Cordelia. Fred’s body had been taken over by Illyria (who at that point was very much alive) and Wolfram and Hart had just waged war at Angel, who was facing certain death with Illyria and an almost dead Gunn at his side.

Where are we now: Wolfram and Hart literally pulled L.A into hell. It’s been a few months, L.A has been divided up and is ruled by demon lords. Angel has a pet dragon and he and Smokey make nightly rounds to save whatever innocents they can from demons and send them to possibly the last remaining safe heaven: The Santa Monica amusement park turned fortress ruled by Connor, Gwen (the hot electricity chick) and Nina (Angel’s last werewolf flame). I hate Connor, how lucky can one vampire-baby be? I’d totally live a few years in an alternate hell dimension if it meant I got to bang Cordelia and now shack up with two hot chicks. Fearing further punishment, Angel has started taking orders from the new Wolfram and Hard representative, WESLEY! But this is just status quo.

What happens this issue: Angel declares war on one of the demon lords by impaling his son and another demon lord gets taken down by Gunn (!) who happens to be a vampire (!!), who then proceeds to bleed some human girls dry (!!!)

Questions that will keep us awake till next issue: Which side does Spike plant his sword own (he shows up next issue and probably his own)? Who turned Gunn Vampie (angel, maybe?)? Who is Wesley taking his orders from? Where’s Illyria? And most importantly how does Buffy and her world fit into this Hell.A? Up till now we haven’t heard her mention neither Angel nor Spike…except that weird sex-fantasy/dream-sequence.

By the way, I haven’t been following the IDW Angel comics and the after word says something about giving one of the characters an eye patch. Any idea who?
